Congressman Introduces A Bill To Save Rural Hospitals

Rep. Cresent Hardy said Friday he introduced a bipartisan bill to help save rural hospitals such as the one in Tonopah that closed in August, leaving area residents hours away from emergency medical facilities.

Had the additional help provided by his new bill been in place, an aide said, Hardy believes it could have been enough to keep the Nye County Regional Medical Center open.

Doctors, Pharmacists, Patients Urged To Use Generics Medication

There are few certainties in health care because every patient is different, but one thing’s a cinch: Medications won’t work if patients don’t take them.

A national association of doctors this week urged physicians to order generic drugs whenever possible because patients are more likely to fill their prescriptions.

The American College of Physicians said generic medications cut costs, increase patient compliance and improve health outcomes.

40 New Residents Headed To MountainView Hospital

The first medical residency program at MountainView Hospital has received accreditation, which means as many as 40 doctors-in-training will be working at the Las Vegas facility in July.  Hospital officials were notified Wednesday that the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education had approved MountainView’s Internal Medicine Residency Program.   “This is a significant step forward in the development of medical education in the Las Vegas Valley,” MountainView CEO Chris Mowan said.
